The problem with dry van dispatch
Dry van is the biggest segment in trucking, and that cuts both ways. There is always freight moving — and there is always another carrier willing to take it cheaper. The load board you're staring at every morning shows you the same posts every other van carrier in your radius is looking at, and the good ones are gone before you finish dialing.
The rate spread on dry van is brutal precisely because the barrier to entry is low. A broker posting a Dallas–Memphis run knows he'll get twenty calls. He has no reason to move off his first number unless someone on the other end knows what the lane actually pays this week.
Most van carriers we talk to describe the same morning: coffee, load board, forty minutes of calls, and a booking they're not happy with — taken because sitting costs more than running cheap. That's not a freight problem. That's a coverage problem.
How dry van booking pain compounds
Because van freight is everywhere, it is easy to fill the truck and still lose the week. A string of short, cheap, poorly-sequenced loads keeps the wheels turning and the revenue flat. The miles look fine on paper and the settlement doesn't.
Drop-and-hook and store-run work — the freight that actually protects your clock — sits with brokers who award it to carriers already in their system. If your packet isn't in front of them, you never see the post. You compete for the leftovers on the public board.
And every hour you spend negotiating is an hour of unpaid work stacked on top of a legal driving day. Dry van rewards volume and consistency, and neither is achievable when the person booking the freight is also the person driving it.
How FOMO books dry van loads
We work your authority as your agent. When you're empty or approaching your next available, we're already working the boards and the phones — you don't have to call us first.
We know which van brokers move steady volume on which corridors, which ones pay on time, and which ones will actually negotiate off a posted rate. That relationship map is the difference between $2.40 and $3.05 on the same lane.
Every load comes to you with the rate, the lane, the broker, the pickup window, and our honest read before anything is confirmed. You approve it or you pass. No forced dispatch, ever.
The unaltered broker rate confirmation goes straight to you. What the broker pays is what you see — we don't edit it and we don't skim a spread.
The 5% flat cut — what it means for dry van
FOMO's dispatch fee is 5% of your linehaul, per booked load. Dry van sits in Tier A — the same flat rate as reefer, flatbed, step deck and power only. There is no van-specific surcharge.
We don't take a cut of fuel surcharge, detention, layover, TONU, or lumper reimbursements. Detention on a store-run delivery is yours in full — which matters, because van freight generates more of it than most equipment types.
No setup fees, no monthly fees, no weekly minimums. If we don't book, you don't pay. Home time and weeks you run your own freight cost you nothing.
We invoice our 5% separately, typically weekly. Brokers pay you directly through your factor or your own bank. We never ask for your factoring login or banking credentials.
Is there a contract, or can I cancel anytime?
Month-to-month. No contract, no lockup, no notice period. If dry van stops working for you — or we stop earning the 5% — you tell us and we're done. No cancellation fee, no clawback, and we don't hold your broker packets hostage.
We don't ask for exclusivity either. Keep your own brokers and keep booking your own freight when you find something better than what we bring you. We only charge on loads we actually book.
The first week is free. After that you decide week to week whether the math works. A dispatcher who needs a contract to keep a van carrier is telling you something about the service.
